I don't play anymore because I'm bitter about it.  It's a long story, but the short version is I played violin for 11 years, was ready to go to college to become a music teacher at the high school or middle school level, and conduct an orchestra of my own.  That didn't happen, and because it didn't I let my disappointment and anger turn me against my gift.

Anyways, this performance of Vivaldi's concerto for four violins in b minor is everything that I LOVED about the orchestral experience.

And I like the lady's red dress.  Music starts at :30.

Oh, that's a very lovely performance! The lady's red dress I too quite like, hehe. Sorry to hear your disappointment made you not want to play the violin again. Hopefully you might like to play the violin again just for fun eventually. I always wanted to either do violin or piano, but never got the chance too due to no time and no money for lessons.

I had a friend in the 6th grade who played when I was in the 4th grade, and I wanted to try it and took to it like a duck to water. I was playing songs by ear in under a day. So I officially started playing in 5ht grade, and by 6th grade I had my own violin and was playing in the all county middle school orchestra, despite the fact I still wasn't great at reading music. Above every note I would write the string letter and how many fingers to put down. So what I now know is a C natural on the staff would have 'A2' written above it. 7th grade I was reading music like a pro and was entered in just about every competition you can think of at the middle school level. I started private lessons but she wasn't very good at teaching and she had horrible garlic breath. High school was much the same, I took 1st chair and concertmistress for 2 years straight (jr. and sr. years) and was taking private lessons at the Louisville academy of music and was being encouraged to audition for the Louisville orchestra. not the youth orchestra, the one that does operas and the Nutcracker at christmas time and gets PAID. I didn't do it because I wanted to be a music teacher, which meant lots of auditions at lots of universities and colleges for a full tuition scholarship.

I lost a completely free ride through school at Western Kentucky University over $150. My parents were getting divorced and they couldn't take time from their problems to send me to realize my dreams, and my grandparents said it was a stupid thing to go to school for, so they didn't help me either. That's when I started drinking and gave up on life for a while.

And now I'm no where near as good as I used to be, and I could kick my own ass for it.

Oh ouch, sorry to hear that. :< There were a couple times where I too had some great opportunities, only to not take advantage of them due to problems arising at my end and no one to help and support me.
