Just an update from my real world

I started my job yesterday and I think I'm going to love it :)  I'm not used to being dressed and wearing makeup and out of the house and out in public by 10 am but I will learn to like it.  My first day at Lane Bryant was mostly run of the mill.  I will say my manager is very capable of multitasking and has a great memory of where we kept leaving off.  She showed me the whole store, all the sections and explained to me why everything was set up the way it was, showed me how to correctly fold pants to be rehung on hangers and how to put a bra back on the hanger, and then she did something I didn't expect her to: she showed me how easy it is to shoplift and why I have to keep a Hawk's eye on everyone in the store.  If they make it into the fitting room with stuff then it's gone.  So she showed me how to diffuse possible shoplifting situations without accusing and being snarky and mean about it.  The other girl that was there looked to be about 21 or so, she is about to graduate from cosmetology school and she was SOO COOL!  I knew I woudl like her immediately- she was carrying a homemade purse made from a Star Wars pillowcase and had tattoos and piercings.  And her hair was so cool too.  Best part about working there? 40% discount!!!  I'm totally going there today to buy some shoes and bras and this dress I saw.  Gonna take Joey's godmother with me and maybe my mom. 

In other news, our plumbing has been fucked royally for about 3 days and today it's finally back up and running.  We had to have the back yard dug up twice, which means 4 antsy dogs whining and crying in the house because strange men with big scary machines were messing up their domain.  Hopefully we won't have any more problems, thankfully the worst part was the city's responsibility and we didn't end up having to pay for a $4000 pipe replacement.  The gods were watching over us that day.

Joey is talking more and more.  He's still on saying a few words clearly, but I'm understanding him better and he is getting better about pointing and not grunting all the time like a caveman, and he is trying to say things.  I think Bubble is the next thing he's going to say clearly.  He says Dog and Ball and Outside plain as day.  He's getting so big :_)

Glad your first day on the job went well. Very cool the manager showed you how easy it is to shoplift so that you can be very aware of that.

Happy first day at work!!

Don't laugh, but I envy your training. I was thinking of going by my local Gap (or something similar) and asking someone if I could pay them to come over and help me fold/sort out all my clothes better.

XD I actually learned most of the folding stuff from my first job at K-Mart back in 1997 XD But before that I felt a lot like you!

yeah the plumbing was a nightmare. $1500 to get it all working again. Can you imagine if we'd had to add that $4000 on top of the $1500? My husband said he was gonna build an outhouse and a shower stall if it was that awful. *I am SOOOOOO thankful it turned out to be the city's problem!*

Well, we're working on saying Sammy. He's got a book called Sammy's Siren, and everytime I read it my brain hurts because I read Sammy's name and think of you, but the protagonist is a guy XD

Can't wait to take a picture of the outfit I bought! I think you will like my accessory selection *cough* BIG EARRINGS!!!!!

heehee, the discount is totally worth it! But it's nice to get out of the house and dress up (well, dressier than I would wear around the house anyway) and put on makeup and talk about bras and dresses and shoes for 4 hours XD

Especially when the gay guy is there. I haven't worked with him yet, but I met him when I was filling out paper work, and he does a bra fitting better than any of the women do. He was in a fitting room with a woman measuring her, and I overheard him saying 'Honey if you don't go up a cup size they're gonna pop out into your soup!" It was so hard not to just die hysterically in the floor XDDD
