Strep test came back negative.  Cough is finally letting up some.  He's got some gnarly diarrhea and his tonsils are still huge, but they are not red or pus-sy looking like they were even a few days ago.  He seems worn out, but he's been fighting a lot of stuff off.  Drinking lots and lots and no more orange pee.  I couldn't get his blood work done because the place closed early due to snow, so his doctor said if he's still improving that it's optional if I want to take him to do it.  Still have to bring him in on Thursday or Friday when he finishes the Bactrim, to recheck his ears and look at those tonsils again.  I think I'm going to take him for blood work anyway,  Might help with the tonsil thing, I dunno.  She says if he keeps improving that it's not mono, and if the ears are still bad we may have to consider tubes.  I'd assume a tonsillectomy as well if these things don't go down.  Mom said her tonsils were like that as a kid and she didn't have to have hers removed, but we'll see.  If this is how they react and it's NOT strep, I can't imagine what would happen should he really get strep.  This diarrhea though...  Wonder if they make some children's Imodium or something.

Big Bang is coming along.  I just put chapter 7 in the final folder and am clocking in at 50,800 words.  Got about two chapters to go and an epilogue, so almost done.  And in the middle of all this the Stoner Series is crying out for the strip club fic I'd talked with bay115 about doing.  We'll get to meet the Devil's Nest crew in that installment.

I wish I could apply all this writing to some original characters and make money at this.

It took me a second to realize why it was for the best that you hyphenated pus-sy. *facepalm*

I'm glad he's coming around. <3

Why can't you?

I have zero confidence in creating characters. But I keep telling myself I have more original characters in my big bang this round than canon characters I think. If I can develop those into believable characters, why couldn't I write some original stuff?

I guess I'm afraid no one would read it or like.

If I may offer my .02, and at least speaking from my own personal experience, writing is intensely personal. The only thing that ultimately matters is how YOU feel about what you've created. Don't get me wrong; I love when people enjoy what I write. I really do. But I can honestly say that I wouldn't change a thing about what I do if no one read what I wrote. Because I'm happy with it. It'll never make me a millionaire (protip: don't write manga if you want to be rich, lol) but I'm very fucking happy with what I do.

I think you should go for it. If you're creating original characters for fanfic, then you can do it for original fic. I believe you can do it! *fist bumps*

I don't even know where to begin! So I start with characters first or a story first? where do I set it? What do they do? BRAIN ESPLODE

I did try to do nano once with original fiction. I had a dream that was a perfect story- the perfect balance of bloody viking adventure and tender love. too much research and after a while I just felt stupid. It was too short, the dialogue too stunted, the characters not real enough... I still have it saved somewhere but I've not touched in so long that I'm afraid to look at it.

I can only tell you what works for me. I usually know my characters very well and for a while before I ever write a story. Then again, I'm a script writer, not a novelist (though I'm trying my hand at the latter one last time).

You could always start with something short and self-contained. Nothing too overwhelming. People are selling their original stories that are shorter than your Big Bang. Gotta love digital and self publishing. :-)

That's the thing I need to do then. Create these characters and let them sit in my stew pot so to speak. And my mom says I expect to much from myself, that I should start small and do short stories at first to get a real grip on my characters. Once I know them inside and out I can do just about anything with them.

I just need to have more confidence in myself. Some of these big bang characters turned out really good. Roy's oldest daughter in my Braeda/Chris universe is a personal favorite of mine, so I know I'm *capable* of making characters. I guess I need to go back to that first law of writing like you said- "Write what YOU like, and if others like it, that's the bonus."

if his tonsils would just go down I would feel so much better (I'm sure he would too!) Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts!

Happy that Joey is starting to feel better. :D

Looking forward to the last couple chapters of your Big Bang! And yes, you should get to the strip club Stoner series fic soon. :P

Might just be one chapter and an epilogue, so bonus if that happens! I have my mini outline and I'm checking it against the main outline, so we'll see.

I already have the idea for the strip club. I just worry that my love for Braeda/Chris is going to overshadow the overall tone of the stoner series, which was originally not supposed to have any shipping in it. The two of them are tugging on my feels today.

I'm glad he's improving. They vary back and forth on whether or not tonsils should be removed or not.

holy crap that IS a big bang. To do mine right it should be that long. I'll be doing good to just wrestle it to an ending that doesn't feel horribly rushed

They look like you could just reach back there and pluck them like raspberries or something! He wasn't coughing at all this morning, and his tonsils were normal except they were big mclarge-huge. The diarrhea has to be from the bactrim. I'm waiting to give it to him today until he gets home from school.

Last year's big bang was 78,626 words. I'm pretty sure I won't hit that mark. I'm thinking maybe just 1 more chapter and an epilogue now. according to my outlines I should be able to get it all in there in that, but if not, I still got that one extra chapter I can throw in. Good luck with wrangling yours- and congrats on your release!!!

Poor kid and yeah bactrim can do that. If you can get some live culture yogart into him that would be good.

well that's good for you then. Thanks. Yeah I have so many pro things right now that doing this was impossible. I didn't expect that when I signed up. I guess that's a good problem to have and thanks
