A collection of Happiness

I have a jar that sits on top of my oven full of little scraps of paper.  And on those little scraps of paper are written things that have made me happy.  Sometimes it's big things, sometimes it's little things, but if it strikes me as something I'm really glad to be alive for, I write it down and put it in this jar.  I open it up on Yule and read them and think about all the great stuff that happened in the past year and how lucky I am to have had those great memories.  I wasn't sure what to do with the slips after I read them, so I trascribed them into a word doc to save them and I thought I'd share my list with you guys (since some of YOU contributed to the pile of slips in the jar!)  These are in no particular order, just the order I happened to read them in.  And not all of these were dated, but if they had a date I included it.



2013 Happiness Jar moments

• Panicky for 2 days straight but I didn’t let it win and I got a super clean kitchen out of it as a bonus.


• 9/13/13 Van is running again!!! New alternator and battery YAY!


• 1/10/13 Joey counted to 4 with no help at the WIC office.  Didn’t get stuck at 3!


• 11/14/13 Just had a really great day- apart from the Angel Tree thing. I was super happy all day!


• 11/19/13 BREAKING WRITER’S BLOCK!!!!


• 1/9/13 Cliff got me an FMA T-shirt when I was sure I wouldn’t get to get it. Best brother EVER


• FINALLY finished chapter 3 of CC2


• Joey brought home a school craft!!


• 5/3/13 got tags on the van- the Imperial Cruiser is BACK!


• After months of struggling, Joey finally got the hang of potty training


• After months of worrying about my foot, I discovered it IS healing and the boot is helping!


• 5/5/13 Got a great deal everywhere, from KFC to glitter to Goodwill. And everyone was happy!


• FIT INTO A SIZE 24!!!


• Despite things not being great with money, it’s never as bad as it could be and I’m thankful.


• Sold 2 art commissions for con money. I’ve NEVER sold my artwork before.


• 1/8/13Finally after over a year, got asked to do a paid survey!


• Knowing that Joey will have a great Christmas ♥!


• 2/2/13 Enjoyed a starcrunch while chatting on the phone with Sammy!


• Closer than ever to getting under 300 pounds. I WILL DO IT THIS YEAR! (did not happen XD)


• 4/23/13 got $.22 raise- the highest of all the girls!


• 1/11/13 Despite a blown radiator, Joey and I made it home safe and the engine was not damaged other than the radiator itself, which is cheap to fix.


• 5/5/13 Joey is talking clearer and clearer. He said, “I’m cold too!” and “Look at these babies!” Also he told me he needed to poop, although he still isn’t ready to poop in the potty.


• Making cookies with Joey :)


• Joey is FINALLY learning his ABC’s


• My son has the most beautiful smile :)


• 2/14/13 got a free bag at work, had a great meal with the fam, then a great nap and laughed a lot with Joey!


• 1/12/13 After months of them being broken, I got my wedding rings fixed


• Joey finally got into head start!


• Seeing Sharon after not seeing her for over 2 years was so wonderful


• Found $15 in the dryer!!!


• Having great friends with big hearts and great cooking makes life even more beautiful. These are blessings.


• Cheryl gave me $10 toward my con goal- FOR NO REASON.

At first I wasn't sure how often I would add to it, but then it became a habit and I was really happy to see just how much stuff was in there that I'd forgotten about!

That's the joy of the happiness jar- write stuff down as you remember it, and if not oh well! I had set out originally to put something in it everyday but obviously that did not happen XD

this was my first year doing it, but I'm really glad I did! I was thinking that this would be really good for someone with depression too, because it can literally be any little thing that makes you happy, like how warm and comfy your slippers feel one day, or how thank goodness it wasn't raining on the way to work that morning or whatever. There were days when I'd see how pretty the clouds were and was just thankful I was able to see them, and while I didn't write them down this past year I'm going to start writing that down too. Anything that makes you happy- that's what it's all about :)
