June 3rd, I had 3 interviews: a gas station, a place that makes the touch screen computers for restaurants, and Costco. All three interviews went wonderfully, and I left feeling like I would have my choice of the three positions. Costco didn't bite, but the other two did. The computer manufacturer would be a short 12 week special project, but it paid $10 an hour and would be ending about the time I would be starting the crossing guard position. Then I had a phone interview on the 6th with Humana Government, and an in person interview with a local pizza parlor. By the 9th I had 2 jobs that I was going to try to work at the same time- the computer manufacturer and the pizza parlor. I was set to start on the 13th and 14th respectively.

On the 10th I got a notice from the county government assistance group that I needed to provide proof that I was registered with the state employment board by the 13th or my food stamps would not be renewed on July 5th. Of course I didn't get the notice until after 5 pm. Tried to register from home, but it said my social security number was already in use, and none of the email addresses I have came up when I did the 'forgot password' option, so I literally had to go to the unemployment office for them to reset my password and verify my email address. After they printed off proof for the assistance place, I then had to take it down there to turn it in because they are notorious for losing faxed documents. The place was across town from where I was (of course).  And of course to accomplish all of this I had to call out on my first day with the computer people, and I didn't even have a contact phone number, so as a no call, no show, I quit before I ever got started. Joey and I made the most of the day though, we played in the fountain and splashed around and had a great afternoon.

So the next day I was ready to go to work for the pizza parlor and I had a bad feeling about it when I left the house. The weather had gone suddenly from sunny and hot to cloudy and muggy, and it started to rain as I drove on to the place. I saw an accident where a dog had been killed... I saw another wreck right by the pizza parlor where a car had exploded and was on fire...  When I got there, I filled out paperwork for 30 minutes, never found out what rate I was hired on at btw. The waitress who was training me was so great- until the manager asked her to put me at the counter, where SHE wasn't trained. Plus, I'd be taking phone orders and there was literally no one in the place or calling in. It was dead as dead could be. The manager kept insisting (angrily) that I be put at the counter, despite being shown where I was supposed to take dirty dishes and what to do with drinks from the bar, etc. Manager eventually calls my server to the office, has some words with her and sends her home, even though she had a table she was serving. Then the manager comes out as my server is clocking out and yells "Did you tell me to fuck off?" Keep in mind there's a table of customers now, and there was no way that could have even happened. Server says "Cindy, you are out of your damn mind today."  Manager then says "You know what? Get the fuck out and don't come back!" That woman had been there for 5 years and the other manager had told me how great she was and everything.

Anyway, rain starts coming down in buckets and we get S L A M M E D. There was only 1 other server, the counter girl and me. Crazy manager tries to put me on the phone at the counter (I have no idea how to use the computer or anything mind you) and put the counter girl out on the floor as a server (who has no idea how to do that). I instead folded boxes and tried to stay out of the way, and when I started hearing all the waitresses and drivers cuss this manager under their breath every time they came close to me, I decided to just leave. I told the counter girl I was leaving, she kept apologizing, but I assured her it was nothing she had done.

I came home and cried. I cried because I really wanted it to work out and because Walt was going to shit when he found out I quit. Turns out he didn't freak out, but I was still really disappointed. That all happened on Tuesday. Yesterday I had a therapist appointment and emergency dental appointment for Joey because we tried to pull his tooth with a string of floss and it got stuck and was making his tooth hurt, so they went on and pulled it for him.  Today, I had two different interviews with Humana, one with the government side dealing with the military's Tricare system, and the other dealing with civilian healthcare. The phone interview was for the goverment position, so this was the second phase of that process. I went to that one first, then the other directly after, and all I'd done for that one was fill out an application online.

The government interview went well, but the background check is a 6-8 week long process because of the security clearances needed. The second interview was short and generic, but there were a lot of applicants. I was taken to the 2nd phase where I was interviewed with 3 other women at the same time. After that, they took me to a 3rd waiting area and I was made an offer after that. So I start with Humana on July 25th and I'll be making the most money I've ever made in my life. So glad I walked away from the pizza place.

In other news, I have a panel on Japanese music and instruments that I'll be presenting at Sukoshicon's Louisville Anime Weekend the weekend after I start my new job. If anyone would like to contribute or have a hand in helping me make a meaningful and well put-together hour long presentation, I have the file up in Google slides (because I have a Chromebook I will be using to present it with). Here's the link if you're interested!!

Congrats on the job!!!

I don't think I'd be much help with the music though I'd love to see your finished product.

Definitely seems like it was for the best that you not work at the pizza place.

Very glad to hear that you landed the other! I hope it is a smooth start for you.
